Government’s Statutory Debt Repayment Plan (SDRP) 12 JULY 2022

Government’s Statutory Debt Repayment Plan (SDRP)

On 11 and 12 July, we hosted webinars to inform both the public and private sectors about the government’s proposal for a new Statutory Debt Repayment Plan (SDRP).

About this webinar

Presenter: Steve Coppard - Arum's Group Director of Debt Policy and Strategy

The government is consulting on draft regulations to introduce a new statutory debt solution known as the Statutory Debt Repayment Plan (SDRP), which will focus on repayment of debt (rather than debt relief). The consultation closes on 5th August and Arum would like to gather feedback as part of the response we will be submitting to the government.

The SDRP will include a broad range of debts, such as debts owed to the government and to creditors outside of financial services. It will protect debtors from enforcement action, creditor contact, and interest, fees and charges on their debts while they repay them, resulting in changes to policies, processes and possibly systems.

It could also see debts repaid over a period of more than 10 years and includes a window where pausing action is requested of all creditors – but not mandated, which would allow an over-zealous creditor to take advantage.
